Low stimulus
For selected performances this theatre season, a low-stimulus experience is available for people who are sensitive to stimuli.
Are you sensitive to stimuli, and does a night out (sometimes) feel like too much for you? Then why not come along to one of these performances? As a theatre, we’ll ensure there are as few stimuli as possible during your visit.

What can you expect?
We’d like to outline a few key points regarding a low-stimulus visit to De Schalm:
- The performance has not been adapted, so you’ll be attending the regular theatre programme. However, we have selected the performances that are best suited to a low-stimulus experience.
- You will be attending the performance alongside the general audience. This means there will be applause, and you can also expect some background chatter, noise or other stimuli from the audience. We will try to seat you in the more secluded areas of the auditorium (for example, on the balcony) wherever possible, but this is subject to availability.
- To ensure a low-stimulus visit, we provide a separate entrance and a special low-stimulus reception area, so that you are disturbed as little as possible by other visitors. We ensure that you can enter the auditorium shortly before the performance begins, when most visitors are already seated, so you are less affected by the flow of people.
- Staff will be on hand to guide you to the auditorium and the low-stimulus facilities.
- Earplugs and headphones are not provided. We advise you to bring your own if you are sensitive to noise.
We’re happy to help you find a solution

We have a standard selection of performances that are presented in a low-stimulus format, but we’d be happy to explore the options with you based on your preferences.
Discover the Boodie: an extra comfort option
To make your visit even more enjoyable, you can borrow a ‘Boodie’ from us – a special feel-good hoodie that dampens light and sound. This comfortable hoodie helps you relax even more during the performance. Ask for one at our box office and experience the difference for yourself
