A new, unique and incredibly lively anniversary programme featuring the very best guitarists in the Netherlands (and far beyond…)

The LP Friday Night in San Francisco featured a breathtaking live recording from the 1980s of a concert in San Francisco by the organiser, the English guitar virtuoso John McLaughlin, fusion guitarist Al Di Meola and flamenco maestro Paco de Lucía. What stood out most was the combination of three completely different, highly virtuosic acoustic guitar sounds and styles.

Following in its footsteps, the unique combination of five top Dutch guitarists emerged in the late 1990s: Five Great Guitars. The original line-up was: Jan Kuiper, Digmon Roovers, Eric Vaarzon Morel, Zoumana Diarra and Harry Sacksioni. Since then, founder and artistic director Jan Kuiper and bass guitarist Digmon Roovers have been touring throughout the Netherlands with their superb guitar group Five Great Guitars. An exhilarating journey through the world of modern guitar, with improvisation as the unifying factor. A unique blend of Gypsy, African, Brazilian, Roots, Latin, Pop, Funk and Jazz, and swinging grooves and rhythms from every corner of the globe.

Following the highly successful Santana tribute tour: BLACK MAGIC WOMAN and the highly versatile GUITAR HEROES, Jan Kuiper launched a new concept: a 5GG guitar festival featuring seven virtuosos.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

Three different guitar acts in a single festival programme, with a number of accessible workshops led by the assembled guitarists serving as a warm-up. This line-up, brimming with virtuosity and the joy of playing, promises a perfect combination of surprising arrangements and highly swinging, danceable guitar grooves.
